Mike Spooner

My interest in the tiny house movement started when Jay Shafer built his first Tumbleweed years ago. I dreamed of designing and building my own tiny home until 2016 when I started to turn that dream into a reality. I finished ProcessHouse, my first build, in 2020, followed by a Prius camper build-out 2 years later. Now I am putting the skills I’ve gained and passion for creating functional and beautiful small spaces towards Teaspoon Dwellings, building unique tiny homes and camper conversions and sharing low-tech innovations in ecosan and simple livingideas that aim to bring us into better alignment with our environment and ourselves.

My core values are: Authenticity, Mindfulness, Beauty, Exploration, and Resourcefulness (AMBER). My goal is to reflect these values in everything I create.

Video: The Easiest Way to Slice an Avocado (No Special Tools)

Avocado is one of my favorite foods. I average about one a day. It’s great on breakfast sandwiches, as a snack with hummus, and even as a meat substitute (or complement) on top of pasta and rice dishes. But nailing the right ripeness and cutting them up without making a mess can be a bit tricky to get the hang of. In this Instagram reel I demonstrate the easiest method I’ve discovered for how to prep and cut up an avocado, with a “teaspoon” twist all my own.… View More

I'm Done With Wheel Covers

What one of my wheels looked like after scraping off the loose paint.

It’s common knowledge that you should protect your tiny home or RV wheels with covers, right? Maybe not. I just discovered the hard way that wheel covers may actually do more harm than good. While it’s important to protect your tires from the sun’s UV rays, I discovered that my wheel covers were providing a perfect shelter and habitat for mice to take up residence in my wheel rims. Apparently… View More
