Mike Spooner

My interest in the tiny house movement started when Jay Shafer built his first Tumbleweed years ago. I dreamed of designing and building my own tiny home until 2016 when I started to turn that dream into a reality. I finished ProcessHouse, my first build, in 2020, followed by a Prius camper build-out 2 years later. Now I am putting the skills I’ve gained and passion for creating functional and beautiful small spaces towards Teaspoon Dwellings, building unique tiny homes and camper conversions and sharing low-tech innovations in ecosan and simple livingideas that aim to bring us into better alignment with our environment and ourselves.

My core values are: Authenticity, Mindfulness, Beauty, Exploration, and Resourcefulness (AMBER). My goal is to reflect these values in everything I create.

Perfect Pour‑Over Coffee on the Road: A Simple Guide

Let me tell you, there’s nothing like stopping at a pullout with an epic view and brewing yourself a fresh cup of pour-over coffee. Video: Tour of my Prius Camper Conversion

2 years ago I converted my 2008 Prius into a camper and traveled from Connecticut to Glacier National Park in Montana and various points along the way and back, living out of it for a month. I made this tour while I was camping in Badlands National Park in South Dakota in 2022.… View More

process.house is now on Instagram!

We’ve sort of fallen off the blogwagon over the last month or two. As of a week ago, the cedar siding is complete. This was by far the most tedious, but also most rewarding part of the project so far.  Over the July 4th weekend I completed the Ice & Water shield roofing underlayment and finishing touches on… View More

Doors and trim complete; cedar siding started!

Installing cedar siding

Mikey and I have been making some pretty decent progress over the past 10 days.  It is SO NICE to have weather again that doesn’t freeze your fingers off if you try to do anything outside - or even indoors in our unheated garage and workshop or inside the Tiny House itself! Doors and Trim A lot of time and meticulous effort was needed to complete the two door installations.  We knew that one of the rough openings -… View More

Roof Sheathing & House "Wrap-up"

This weekend I finished fastening the sheathing to the roof (doing much better with heights now!) and Dad and I completed the house wrap. I chose Hydro Gap from Benjamin Obdyke, which is a “drainable” housewrap. It has little spacers on the surface to allow water that gets behind your siding to drain out. Sort of a mini rain-screen. Useful tip: A belt sander with 36 grit sandpaper comes in real handy when you need to… View More
